Truck-Mounted Attenuator (TMA) is a crash cushion mounted to a truck to absorb rear-end impacts. In Texas, TMAs must be NCHRP-350 or MASH tested, installed per manufacturer specs, and mounted on a host vehicle weighing at least 19,000 lbs (including the TMA, ballasted if needed).
Ordinary vehicles weren’t designed to absorb crash energy. TMAs are engineered to reduce impact forces, keeping responders safer and limiting liability.
